Intro to Global Village Homestay Projects

The Global Village Homestays Project started in March 2003 from an idea forged in a remote Fijian village. Scott Balson had earlier met the local chief of the village of Namuamua in October 2002 and, as a result, returned to spend a few days with his family. Over the kava bowl one evening the discussion turned to how the Fijian villagers could get some direct benefit from the country's major export market - tourism.

An integral part of the expanding face of Global Village Homestays is staff member Sarah White who's extensive past experience and University study in the area of sustainable tourism gives us clear focus on our objectives and goals.

Fijibure.com

In June 2003 FijiBure.com was launched with just two villages participating. Today some ten villages participate and the number of guests visiting these villages brings in thousands of dollars per month - money which is used wisely with major community benefits back to the villagers.
